Dr. Rahul Narang has over 25 years of experience in the field of Microbiology, Mycobacteriology, Anti-Microbial Resistance, Laboratory Safety & Quality Management. He has published more than 65 articles in various reputed National and International journals. Few of his newly found interests include One Health, Climate Change and Human Health, Public Health-Microbiology, Tribal Health, Microbiota and Personalized Microbiology. He was Professor of Microbiology in MGIMS, Sevagram for more than 13 years with a cumulative experience of 25 years post masters. He is currently the Dean (Academics) and Professor and Head of Department of Microbiology in AIIMS Bibinagar. He was project manager in WHO-FIND-CDC Ethiopia and established the first lab working on newer diagnostics in a high TB burden country. He was also project manager of CDC-FIND in India and was in-charge of International Centre of Excellence on Lab Training, NTI Bangalore, which established 7 TB labs across the country. He was the nodal officer for RNTCP/NTEP and also in-charge of TB lab in MGIMS, Sevagram for a long duration. He conducted various projects on Extra-pulmonary and Pulmonary TB Prevalence, DRS, TB Recurrence and ARTI Surveys for CTD, validation of LED Microscopy, Interferon Gamma Release Assay and TB-LAMP for WHO. He has done extensive studies on Acute Encephalitis Syndrome, JE Epidemiology and Zoonosis for ICMR and has developed techniques for isolation of NTM from patients and environment. He is the coordinator for IAMM Working Group on One Health and Member-Secretary of the Indian National Working Group on NTM. He was also a former Executive Member of IAMM. He devised an innovative technique for Childhood TB Diagnosis (K-8 Spider). He is currently the PI for Regional Coordinator for One Health under National One Health Program for Prevention and Control of Zoonoses (NOHP-PCZ), and Medical College Level VRDL in AIIMS Bibinagar. He and his team are presently working on the establishment of One Heath Demographic Surveillance System (OHDSS) in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District of Telangana State. One Health initiatives proposed by him such as NAWA-NISCHAIY, SAMMAAN, AYUSHMAN, SATHCRIYA, AHIMSA, DRONA, PRAMAAN etc have been acknowledged by the State and Central Government Ministries. He is keen on developing a Health Care Ecosystem around AIIMS Bibinagar using the One Health Approach. He also envisions Systems based approach to combat Climate Change and its impact on Human Health. Hence he is well known among his peers, colleagues and students for his innovative research focused on policy making and philanthropy
